ABOUT KIM LOWACK, OT

For 30 years I’ve helped parents find the way forward.

I’m an Occupational Therapist, a reflex integration coach and a mom of three. I founded The Thriving Child so parents everywhere could get the same help families receive in my practice, right at home.

MY STORY

Why I do this work

“I kept meeting parents who loved their child fiercely, had tried everything, and still felt stuck.”

God was so faithful to show me Occupational Therapy at the young age of 16. When a dear friend of mine was in a life-threatening car accident, I had the privilege of observing and helping with his rehabilitation. Through that experience, God sparked a flame in my heart, and I knew I was created to help others in their time of physical need. During OT school, working with children quickly became my favorite way to practice my new skills. Their innocence drew me in, and I wanted to be part of their story, creatively encouraging and empowering them to reach their God-given potential.

Reflex integration didn’t make its appearance in my life until I had been practicing for some time. But once again, God sought me out. Through others, and through the circumstances of one of my own clinic families, He revealed to me the power of primitive reflexes and brain balancing. I went out to learn these new skills and master them, and integrating retained primitive reflexes, along with the work of Dr. Robert Melillo and Dr. Harald Blomberg, became my passion project. As I applied these principles alongside many other techniques in the clinic, I saw firsthand the power these reflexes have in building the foundations of the brain, and how they helped me find root-cause solutions for the children I served.

As a mom of three myself, watching a child move from a struggling spirit to a carefree one, and then become a thriving child, was all I needed to put pen to paper (or keyboard to computer, as it were!) and make a difference in the lives of other children and families. When COVID arrived, I was once again prompted to bring these principles into a virtual setting. What I saw was eye-opening: children made greater progress when their parents were the agents of change 4–5 days a week than when I was doing the work myself in the clinic only 1–2 days a week. That revelation changed everything. I took what I’d learned and turned my knowledge into a course, so I could coach families more efficiently and effectively, right in their own homes.

Over three decades in clinics and in public, private and homeschool settings, I saw the same pattern again and again. The behaviors parents were worried about were signals from a nervous system that had missed a step in development. When we went back and built that foundation, children became calmer, more focused and more confident.

WHAT MAKES MY APPROACH DIFFERENT

We integrate the whole reflex loop, not just the movement.

Many reflex programs focus on motor actions alone. That can quiet a retained reflex without fully integrating it.

My technique also activates the sensory networks behind each reflex. Your child’s brain senses, processes and responds as one connected loop, so the change lasts.

SENSE

Wake up the sensory networks

Gentle input helps the brain notice what the body is feeling.

CONNECT

Build brain–body pathways

Simple, rhythmic movements strengthen the connections development was meant to lay.

RESPOND

Integrate the response

The reflex settles into place, and calmer, more mature responses can grow.

What I believe

Every child is fearfully and wonderfully made.

Follow God’s design

The brain develops in a beautiful order. When we follow that order, we get to the root, not just the symptoms.

Parents are the heroes

You know your child best. My job is to equip you, so the change happens at home, with you right beside your child.

Small steps, every day

Fifteen to thirty minutes a day, done consistently, can change the story your child tells about themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where are you located?

We’re based in Texas, but we don’t have a physical office. Instead, we provide virtual assessments & coaching as well as online course.

Is everything done virtually with you? I was really hoping to find an OT in person.

Yes, it is done virtually but we have active homework you will do at home 15-30 min day.

How will you work with my child if you are virtual only?

We work asynchronously, and since every child’s needs and learning style are unique, the best way to explain the process is during assessment call. We’ll walk you through exactly how virtual sessions work, what you and your child can expect, and how the program is tailored to support their unique needs. Schedule a consultation or assessment call, and we’ll be happy to answer your questions and help you determine the best approach for your child.

Do you offer any promotions or discounts?

We do offer discounts for families who want us to work with multiple children within one family, otherwise we offer payment plans we can offer you.

Do you accept insurance?

We don’t currently accept insurance plans directly. However, we’d be happy to provide a superbill (available only for Guided Course Basic/Premium) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
