BALANCED BRAIN ~ THRIVING CHILD

Kim Lowack

Plank phase 1

The goal is to have the arms straight, hips even like a board.  If you need to modify you can use a lower surface for the feet at first.  We are working towards being able to have enough strength to do the Wheelbarrow.

Technique: With palms flat on the floor and arms straigth, hold upper body in a plank position with feet on an elevated surface.  IF this is too difficult you can place knees on the surface and when this position can be held for 1 minute then the child can move down to the shins or feet on the elevated surface.

Frequency:

  • 1-2 x daily

Undesired observations: Exercise is not complete until the below observations or gone:

  • No breath holding
  • No wiggling
  • No rest breaks
  • No dipping of the hips downward
  • No turning of the hands in odd positions

Activities to build up shoulder and hand strength:

  1. Knee plank
  2. Mountain Climbers slow
