Tandem Balance

Balancing activities with and without the visual system continues to develop optimal vestibular function, an essential foundation for all sensory processing and movement control.
Technique: Standing with one foot in front of the other, hands on hips or down to the sides. With eyes open maintain balance for 1 minute. When this is achieved move to standing with eyes closed for 1 minute.
Frequency:
- 1-2x daily
- Begin with your child standing in tandem (heel to toe/ one foot in front of the other ) with eyes open and hands on hips
- Standing with eyes open is achieved, then you will move to stand in tandem with eyes closed
- You can use tape on the floor to assist with a visual reference if needed.
Undesired observations: Exercise is not complete until the below observations or gone:
- Loss of balance greater than 1 inch to the right or left
- Unable to maintain a center for less than 1 minute
