Eat the Ball

This exercise is a continuation of work for the Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR)

Technique:

  • Lying on their back the child extends one arm out to the side while the opposite leg is bent at the knee.
  • While head is turned to look at the ball, bring ball to nose
  • Reverse the direction of all limbs and the head watching the ball come to the nose

Frequency:

  • 5 cycles

Undesired observations: Exercise is not complete until the below observations or gone:

  • Unable to keep head still while arms and legs are moving.
  • Unable to focus on and follow the ball as the hand comes inward.
  • Difficulty keeping arms or legs still during head raise.
  • Difficulty keeping arms in legs in the proper position arms straight out to sides.
  • Unable to move both sides of the body at the same time.
  • Unable to move arms at the same time as the legs.
  • Movements are choppy, not smooth and coordinated.
  • Holding breath.
